Meet our Coaches
Ryan St. Martin, Varsity Head Coach
With his 17th season behind the bench at the MSHSL level, Ryan is widely recognized for his dedication, player and character development, as well as leadership. This season marks his 7th year as the Head Coach of Hopkins Park Royals Hockey Varsity Team.
In 2023, Coach St.Martin was named the Section 6AA Head Coach of the Year and in 2020, the Royals were recognized as the Minnesota Girls Hockey Coaches Association Class AA Sportsmanship Award presented annually to the program that best exemplifies sportsmanship and character - a tremendous honor he credits to the great student-athletes he has been privileged to work with. Ryan has also been deeply involved in USA Hockey’s High Performance Development Programs since 2014, evaluating players at state, district, and national camps, as well as coaching the top 15–18 year-olds from across Minnesota and neighboring states annually throughout the spring and summer. His work with the USA Hockey Select U18 National Development Camp has helped nurture some of the country’s top emerging talent.
Ryan is also committed to shaping the broader hockey community, serving on several important committees, including the MGHCA All-State Selection Committee and the MSHSL State Tournament All-Tournament Team Selection committee.
In addition to leading the Royals, Ryan has had a major impact at several other schools, including Wayzata, Eagan, Benilde-St. Margaret’s, and Simley High School helping develop a solid foundation in teamwork with several All-State players receiving Ms.Hockey, consideration. Along the way he was recognized with multiple Assistant Coach of the Year awards.
With a Level 5 USA Hockey Coaching Certification, Ryan continues to enhance his coaching skills, focusing on both the technical aspects of the game and the development of character, leadership, and teamwork.
He believes in pushing players to reach their full potential—both on and off the ice—and creating an environment where players can grow and succeed. Ryan’s passion for sports and coaching is driven by his desire to help young athletes have gratitude, become comfortable taking risks and equipped to build and maintain quality relationships. Off the ice, Ryan has coached track for 14 years, guiding over 20 athletes to All-State accolades, including a State Champion in the 400 meters.
Coach St. Martin lives in the area with his wife, Tara, and their three children, Emmit, Macy, and Grant.
He’s excited for another season of growth, development, and fun with Hopkins Girls' Hockey!
Stella, Varsity Assistant Coach
We are beyond excited to have Hopkins alum and former player, Coach Stella, back for her second season with the Hopkins Park Hockey family! Stella graduated from Hopkins High School in 2017 after an incredible five-season run on the team. During her time at Hopkins, she was a standout player, attending the USA Hockey Player Development Camp for three years, participating in the Elite League, and proudly representing the Jr. Whitecaps.
After high school, Stella went on to play Division 1 hockey for four years at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in New York, where she thrived as both a forward and defenseman. Following her college career, she returned to Minnesota to attend law school at the University of St. Thomas, where she graduated this past spring and passed the Bar Exam (Go Tommies!).
Before joining the varsity coaching staff, Coach Stella coached the U12 A program and is now excited to focus on leading the varsity forwards this season. Her coaching style emphasizes speed, tenacity, and creativity, all while encouraging strong teamwork, positive attitudes, and having fun!
Coach Stella can’t wait to work with the team again and is eager to meet the new athletes and families.
She’s looking forward to another great season of growth, development, and teamwork!
